Show Me the Wire Transfer: Kushner’s “Hitman,” Omar’s Other Name & Black October?

Vanity Fair alleges Kushner paid a hit man (he denies; JPost pulled its version). Trump says Omar used a fake name. Democracy Files, Black October, Israel votes tomorrow, midterms in eight days — and Blake's rule: show me the wire transfer. Allegations aren't convictions.

Monday night in the Gonzo Lounge ran long — call it a marathon with a thesis. Vanity Fair published a book excerpt alleging Jared Kushner moved money to “a warlord, a mercenary, and a one-time hitman.” Kushner calls it insane, and the Jerusalem Post ran a version and then pulled it. Trump says Ilhan Omar’s name is fake. A leak says NGO veterans gamed out declaring the government illegitimate. Candace Owens is back on Egyptian planes. A guy on X says AI is a portal to alien minds. Israel votes tomorrow. You vote in eight days. Banks are chasing AI agents out of checking accounts.

Everybody’s got a bombshell. Nobody’s got a bank statement. So the rule of the night was simple: show me the wire transfer. If the money moved, there’s a record. If somebody committed a crime, there’s a charge, then a trial, then a verdict — in that order. Until then, it’s a question, not a conviction.

As always: allegations aren’t convictions, questions aren’t conclusions, and criticism of politicians and ideologies is not a verdict on any ethnicity or religion. Theories stay labeled as theories.

Topics on Tonight’s Gonzo Lounge

  • The Kushner files. Vanity Fair ran an excerpt from Matthew Cole’s Princes and Thieves claiming Dutch intelligence monitored Kushner’s phone in 2020 and watched transfers from a Dubai account fed by Azerbaijan money — including, the source said, to a warlord, a mercenary, and a one-time hitman. Kushner denies it; his lawyers have sent Vanity Fair a defamation notice; the Jerusalem Post removed its own write-up after citing factual issues. Anonymous sources. No bank records published. Allegation, not a finding.
  • Candace, Egyptian planes, and Charlie Kirk. Candace Owens and others are tying an Egyptian business jet that was reportedly in Utah the day Charlie Kirk was killed to a Board of Peace figure linked to Kushner. That’s their theory. Tyler Robinson is charged and has pleaded not guilty — not convicted. We also walked through Sen. Mike Lee’s comments on the trial timeline and why presumption of innocence still matters when a sitting senator treats a trial like an inconvenience.
  • Israel votes tomorrow. Polymarket had Netanyahu around 27% to remain PM. Opposition figures (Eisenkot, Liberman, Yair Golan) are hammering him over Iran and the war. Eisenkot’s line that Netanyahu knew Iran didn’t have a nuclear weapon is not the same as “there was no threat” — keep the distinction. We flagged the fever-swamp versions of this argument and tried (imperfectly) to stay on the politicians, not whole peoples.
  • Midterms, eight days out. RCP’s toss-up maps: a pile of Senate races that could decide the chamber, a House map that already looks brutal for the GOP even if they sweep the toss-ups, and a handful of governor races. Minnesota check: if I still lived there, Peggy Flanagan’s Phi Beta Kappa claim (her campaign now says she was nominated but never joined) would push me toward Royce Tafoya over “Alpha Karen” Amy Klobuchar’s orbit. Classical liberals and libertarians who backed Trump in 2024 are demoralized — staying home still hands the ball to the other team in the states that matter.
  • Democracy Files / Renew to Thrive. DataRepublican says ex-USAID “democracy” staff spun up contingency plans (the “4 B’s,” red lines like the Insurrection Act, a “refounding” moment) across hundreds of leaked calls. We have not independently verified the recordings. Contingency planning for a constitutional crisis is not the same thing as a proven plot to incite violence, no matter what a headline says.
  • Omar week: what’s in a name? A federal court filing listed Congresswoman Ilhan Omar under an a/k/a, Ilhan Nur Said Elmi. Trump demanded she resign. She says her name is Ilhan Abdullahi Omar; her office has called “Nur Said” a childhood nickname. An a/k/a in a filing is not a fraud conviction, and she has not been charged. The government’s response on unsealing related records was due around Oct 27. Older claims (sham marriage, Somalia “leaks”) got airtime as questions with thin sourcing.
  • Breaking on air: James Comey. Mid-segment, newly unsealed filings showed prosecutors had filed a criminal information charging former FBI Director James Comey with two Espionage Act counts tied to an alleged October 2016 disclosure. Charged is not convicted — and this filing is an information, not a grand-jury indictment; Comey maintains his innocence and is moving to dismiss.
  • Black October. John Milinovich’s viral thread on a burst of cyberattacks, Chinese open-weight models, and “fast takeoff” collided with an Axios scoop that big banks are booting unauthorized AI agents out of customer accounts. The PHP remote-code flaws and the bank story are real. “China planned it” and “the internet is about to lock down” are opinion. Practical beat: 72 hours of food, a generator, a password manager — prepper-lite, not bunker cosplay. Then we took the woo off-ramp: is AI a portal to alien minds? Labeled speculation. Fun. Not evidence.
  • Trump vs. Bill Maher, butts, and the ballroom. A 1,300-word Truth Social broadside nine days after a White House dinner, a montage of Trump complimenting men’s looks, Nicki Minaj, Forbidden Studios AI, and a protester sick of hearing about the ballroom. The fluff reel after a heavy news night.
  • Closing question. Biggest claim of the week — which one do you actually believe, and what’s your receipt? One word: Kushner, Omar, Democracy Files, or Black October. Receipts are boring until they’re not.

Fact Check Corner: What I Got Wrong (or Overstated)

  • Peggy Flanagan’s résumé. I said her whole academic life had been a fraud and that she’d “lied about everything.” The concrete problem is narrower: she publicly claimed Phi Beta Kappa, and her campaign has since said she was nominated but never joined (and couldn’t afford the fee). Resume inflation is fair game. “Everything” was me swinging for the fences.
  • Omar’s “fake name.” I compressed a federal filing’s a/k/a (Ilhan Nur Said Elmi) into “her name is not Ilhan Omar.” An a/k/a raises questions. It is not, by itself, a fraud finding, and she has not been charged. Somali naming conventions and her office’s “childhood nickname” explanation are part of the record too. Charge → trial → verdict. I know the rule. I still oversimplified it on air.
  • Spencer Pratt on Omar’s father. I played and amplified the line that her father “ran the brutal dictatorship in Somalia.” That’s Pratt’s upgrade. The Newsmax/James Rosen reporting that actually exists is about a probe that originated in a war-crimes unit looking at whether her late father lied about Somali Army service — not a finding that he ran the regime. I should have read Rosen, not Pratt.
  • Tone on Omar “criminal case.” Riffing on charge / jail / deport talk before there’s a charge treats a political fight like a conviction. She’s under scrutiny. She hasn’t been convicted of anything. Questions aren’t conclusions — including mine.
