Today is the first of July, which officially makes it “Canada Day“ apparently. Not quite a birthday, not really an Independence Day per se, but certainly the country’s most important National Holiday.
In honor of the occasion, I’m going to share one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums. From a time when we were young and wild and free. Specifically, the fifth of November back in 1984. This date is highly significant for two reasons: First, it happens to be Guy Fawkes Day in George Orwell’s Year. The second is that this also happens to be the day that the Reckless album was released by Canadian singer/guitarist Bryan Adams! As it turns out, November 5th also happens to be Bryan’s birthday, and his middle name is actually “Guy!”
Anyway, this monumental album launched Bryan Adams into mega-superstardom with six Top-15 singles, and was the first album to sell over a million copies within Canada. Of course I had a cassette of my own that was played over and over and over again on my Fisher-Price tape recorder way back when I was 7. Okay, it’s been fun but I’m gonna run, Happy Canada Day everyone!
Bryan released a 30th year anniversary version of this album with tons of extras and upgraded 5.1 surround mix. However nothing beats the vintage sound of the OG FP cassette player & tape recorder in the classic tan & brown.
